Bates Secures 5-2 NESCAC Road Win at Connecticut College to Wrap Up Conference Play

Bobcats Hold No. 8 Spot with Postseason Field Set to Be Announced Next Weekend

NEW LONDON, Conn. — Bates built an early edge with the doubles point and followed with four singles victories to earn a 5-2 NESCAC win at Connecticut College on Sunday. 

The Bobcats (5-10, 3-7 NESCAC) took two of three doubles matches to open the morning match.

At No. 1, Phillippe Kosyagin and Theo Sardain posted a 6-4 win over Arjun Premkumar (Bangalore, India) and Noa Hoshino (Tokyo, Japan). Nicolas Ozer and James Sacco matched that score at No. 3 doubles, defeating Edward Petersen (Cape Town, South Africa) and Sigmund Winiecki (Jaffrey, N.H.), 6-4, to clinch the point.

The Camels' lone doubles win came at No. 2, where Nikhil Agarwal (San Mateo, Calif.) and Wolf Sohlberg (Espoo, Finland) edged Eric Diop and Josh Maller, 7-6.

In singles, Bates secured the match with four victories in straight sets. Diop earned a 6-1, 6-3 win over Premkumar at No. 2. Rocco Regnier followed with a 6-3, 6-4 result against Hoshino at No. 4, and Ozer added a 6-4, 6-4 win over Gavin Anderson at No. 5. James Sacco rounded out the scoring with a 6-0, 6-3 victory against Tucker Catalano (Duxbury, Mass.) at No. 6.

Connecticut College (3-14, 0-8 NESCAC) picked up its two points at the top of the lineup. Agarwal defeated Kosyagin, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 1 singles, and Sohlberg outlasted Sardain at No. 3, 7-6, 6-4.

Bates currently holds the No. 8 position in the NESCAC standings as regular season conference play concludes for the the garnet and white. The official NESCAC Championship field will be announced next weekend. The Bobcats last appeared in the conference tournament in 2022-23, earning the No. 7 seed.

Returning to campus for one final regular-season tilt, Bates will host MIT on Tuesday, April 28 at 2:00 p.m. The Bobcats will honor Sardain, the squad's lone senior, prior to the match.
