MIDDLETOWN, Conn. -- The No. 8 nationally ranked Bates field hockey team suffered a 5-1 setback to No. 15 Wesleyan on Saturday in NESCAC action.
The Bobcats (3-2, 1-1 NESCAC) fell behind 2-0 in the first 13 minutes of action and couldn't recover as the Cardinals (5-1, 1-1 NESCAC) beat Bates for the first time since 2014.
Five different Wesleyan players found the back of the cage and Cardinal goalkeeper Audrey Pace made five saves.
Bates got their lone goal of the day in the 37th minute, as the Bobcats took advantage of their lone penalty corner of the contest.
Junior

But that was it for the Bobcats on offense, as the Cardinals out-shot Bates 12-7 and earned eight penalty corners to one for Bates.
