NEW LONDON, Conn. -- For the second time in three days, Bates College men's tennis experienced a 5-4 setback, this time falling at Connecticut College in NESCAC action.
The contest commenced with the Bobcats' top doubles duo,
Alexander Gujarathi and
Theo Sardain, cruising to an 8-3 win over the Camels' Jared Leong and Aaron Felishman in the No. 1 slot.
At No. 2, Sigmund Winiecki and Jules Taylor-Kerman defeated
Matthew Danielson and
Nicky Desai, 8-1. James Serhant III and Walker Mulligan followed that performance with an 8-4 defeat of Bates'
Ben Adey and
Evangelo Kapothanasis at No. 3 to head into singles action with a 2-1 advantage.
The Bobcats, once again, played outstanding tennis in one-on-one competition, earning triumphs in the first three singles contests.
Gujarathi (6-3, 6-0 vs. Arjun Premkumar), Danielson (6-2, 6-1 vs. Felishman), and Sardain (6-4, 6-4 vs. Leong each enjoyed straight-set wins at No.1 through No. 3, respectively, providing Bates an overall lead of 4-2 in in the match.
The Camels came up with straight-set victories at No. 4 and 5 as Taylor-Kerman (6-4, 6-4 vs. Desai) and Mulligan (6-4, 6-2 vs.
Eli Criss) secured wins to even the overall score at 4-4.
Adey opened the No. 6 contest with an initial 6-4 win vs. Gavin Anderson in the first set. The Conn. College sophomore rebounded with identical 6-4 triumphs to secure the match for the Camels, the program's seventh-straight victory this spring (8-3 overall, 1-3 NESCAC).
Bates (2-7, 0-3 NESCAC) returns to action next Saturday, Mar. 30 with a visit to #5 Tufts at 10:00 a.m.
