CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Bates rowing teams more than held their own against the Radcliffe lightweights and the MIT heavyweights on the Charles River Saturday morning.
For the second straight week, the Bates men's second varsity eight impressed. Led by sophomore coxswain
Isabel Beck (Montclair, N.J.) and sophomore stroke
Ian Van Loo (Seattle, Wash.), the Bobcats out-raced the Engineers, winning their race in 6:05.3. MIT crossed the finish line in 6:09.2.
Bates showed off more of its depth with the men's third varsity eight winning as well. Led by first-year coxswain
Micah Shimizu (Batavia, Ill.) and first-year stroke
Wiley Anderson (Ithaca, N.Y.), the Bobcats prevailed in their race with a time of 6:27.9, out-racing MIT's 3V, which recorded a mark of 6:38.6.
Besides the Radcliffe lightweights, the Bates women's rowing team also took on Boston College in one of the races, with the Bates third varsity eight prevailing over the BC 4V with a time of 7:16. Led by junior coxswain
