Three different Bobcats score in No. 19 field hockey's 3-0 win at Connecticut College

NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Three different Bobcats found the back of the cage and the No. 19 nationally ranked Bates field hockey team rolled to a 3-0 win at Connecticut College Saturday morning in NESCAC action.

Bates (8-6, 4-5 NESCAC) beat the Camels (4-10, 1-8 NESCAC) for the sixth straight season.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Bobcats got on the board in the 18th minute of action. Junior captain Sarah Bussell (Mohegan Lake, N.Y.) attacked the cage from the right side but her shot was denied by Camel keeper Sadie Abuhaidar. Junior captain Paige Cote (Auburn, Maine) was able to gain possession and rip a back-handed shot top shelf into the cage for her fifth goal of the season. Cote leads Bates with 21 points on the year.

Up 1-0 at the half, the Bobcats picked up an insurance tally in the third quarter. In the 36th minute, Bates earned a penalty corner. Junior Ella Blum (South Salem, N.Y.) delivered the insert and an initial shot by Cote got blocked. But sophomore Anna Lindeis (New Canaan, Conn.) picked up the loose change and found Blum for the latter's sixth goal of the season.

Bates capped off the scoring in the 50th minute when Blum connected with junior Kami Lambert (Augusta, Maine) for Lambert's team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Senior Grace Biddle (State College, Pa.) had a great game in the cage, earning the shutout for the Bobcats. She recorded a season-high seven saves in the win.

The Bobcats took 18 shots on the day, with 11 on goal. The Camels finished with 16 shots, with seven on goal. Connecticut College earned 13 penalty corners to Bates' 11, but the Bobcats held strong to pick up the win.

Bates is back in action Tuesday when the Bobcats visit Colby for a contest that gets underway at 7pm.
