Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field hockey blanked on the road 3-0 by No. 19 nationally ranked Trinity

HARTFORD, Conn. -- The Bates field hockey team ran into a red hot No. 19 nationally ranked Trinity squad on Saturday, falling on the road to the Bantams by a final score of 3-0.

Trinity (7-1, 4-1 NESCAC) won their sixth straight thanks to three separate players tallying goals against the Bobcats (4-4, 2-4 NESCAC).

Bates recorded the first shot of the contest in just the fourth minute of action when sophomore Taylor Lough (Little Compton, R.I.) fired a shot that missed just wide.

In fact, early on the Bobcats contained Trinity nicely, with the Bantams not recording a shot until the 18th minute when Kelcie Finn missed wide of the mark.

But a penalty corner in the 22nd minute resulted in the Bantams getting on the board when Alison Slow found Finn who slapped it home for the goal.

The first half was a defensive struggle with the teams combining for only four shots, compared to 10 combined shots in the second half.

The Bantams wasted no time getting an insurance goal to start the second half, scoring just one minute and 36 seconds into the action when Madison Guiffre found Chandler Solimine for Trinity's second goal of the afternoon.

In the 38th minute of the match, Lough fired two shots in quick succession that were stopped by Trinity keeper Lori Berger.

After that, Trinity stayed firmly in control, adding to their lead in the 58th minute when Finn found Brenna Hobin for the goal.

The last real scoring opportunity for the Bobcats came in the 62nd minute when sophomore Jessie Moriarty's (Springfield, Mass.) shot was saved by Berger.

Neither team recorded another shot the rest of the afternoon.

Bates will look to pick up their third NESCAC victory of the season on Sunday when they visit Amherst for a contest starting at noon.
