There was no lack of outstanding efforts from the Bates women's swimming and diving team last weekend, as the Bobcats won by wide margins in a Saturday dual meet at Wesleyan University and a Sunday matchup at Trinity College. Junior All-American Whitney Paine (Moultonborough, N.H.) was certainly one of the major standouts, with a hand in seven event wins over the two days.
Paine began the weekend with the leadoff leg in Bates' victorious 200-yard medley relay, combining with junior Melissa Paione (Auburn, Maine), sophomore Sara Daher (Marblehead, Mass.) and junior Caroline Depew (Hudson, Ohio) to finish in 1:51.36. She was also in the Bobcats' wining 400 freestyle relay, won in 3:47.96 with first-year Anabel Carter (Camden, Maine), senior Hannah Chory (Weston, Mass.) and first-year Sarah Sachs (Tacoma, Wash.).
In between, Paine was the meet winner in two individual events, swimming the 100 backstroke in 1:00.03 and the 100 freestyle in 55.33 seconds.
The following day, Paine won or helped win three events to contribute to the Bates' women's 224-70 win at Trinity. She claimed first place in the 50 backstroke in a time of 28.49 seconds, and also teamed with Daher, Paione and first-year Logan McGill (Dallas, Texas) for first place in the 200 medley relay (1:51.29), followed by a 1:49.99 winning time in the 200 free relay, teaming with Daher, McGill and Carter.
