AMHERST, Mass. -- The Bates volleyball team earned two victories Friday in the Hall of Fame Tournament at Amherst College, defeating both Bridgewater State (25-17, 25-19, 25-12) and Bard College (25-10, 25-12, 25-14) in straight sets.
Bates (13-6) will continue at the annual tournament Saturday at Amherst with neutral-site matches against Gordon (11-9) at 11am and against Wellesley (16-3) at 3pm.

Bates attacked at a .276 percentage to .011 for Bridgewater State (6-12) in rolling to the non-conference victory.
The Bobcats led 16-14 in the first set before pulling away down the stretch in a 9-2 run, using two kills by senior Taylor Stafford-Smith (Calabasas, Calif.), plus klls by first-year Emma Eide (Ramsey, N.J.), junior Angel Echipue (Munich, Germany), sophomore Sydney Phillips (Plainville, Mass.) and junior Olivia McCulloch (Sunderland, Mass.).
The second set played out in similar fashion, with Bates pulling away from a 17-17 tie with an 8-1 run. First-year Catie Sanchez (Pasadena, Calif.) and junior Delaney Mayfield (Santa Barbara, Calif.) had two kills apiece in the run, while Echipue and junior Ruby Lightbourn (Los Angeles, Calif.) also tallied kills.
The third set was all Bates, as the Bobcats built leads of 4-1, 8-3, 17-8 and 24-11 before senior setter Julia Panepinto (Buffalo, N.Y.) made the final kill of the match at 25-12.
Echipue led all players in the match with eight kills against three errors on 16 attempts (.312). Stafford-Smith added seven on 13 attempts (.462) and eight digs, while Mayfield posted seven kills on 16 attempts (.375) with three blocks. Panepinto had 20 assists and Eide added 18. Sophomore Megan Seabury (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led the Bobcats with 14 digs.
Abigail Gardner had five kills on 33 attempts (-.121) for the Bears.

Bard was limited to -.026 attack percentage against .275 for Bates in the Bobcats' easy win over the Raptors (6-15).
Phillips posted 10 kills with two errors on 13 attempts in the match (.615). Echipue added five kills with no errors on nine attempts (.556).
Seabury again led the Bobcats with 14 digs, and added four assists and a kill. Panepinto (17 assists) and Eide (11 assists, four service aces) split setting duties.
Mikala L'Hote led Bard with five kills on 14 attempts (.214).
The third set was the most closely contested, as the Raptors pulled within a point at 9-8 and 10-9. A kill by Stafford-Smith gave the serve to Seabury for four straight points, including kills by Seabury and senior Jordan Camarillo (Tucson, Ariz.), to open it up to 14-9. Bates extended the lead to 21-13 on six straight serves by sophomore Brettney Fuller (Temple, Texas). Kills by McCulloch and Eide pushed Bates to the brink of victory, and a Bard attack error clinched it.
