HADLEY, Mass. -- Senior captain Luca Polgar is the NESCAC Women's Squash Player of the Week, announced Monday by the New England Small College Athletic Conference.
Polgar (Budapest, Hungary) improved to 6-1 on the season individually, defeating opponents from No. 22 Mount Holyoke, No. 13 Williams and No. 23 Connecticut College over the weekend at the No. 1 position. Her 3-2 (11-5, 8-11, 1-11, 11-2, 11-8) victory Friday over Mount Holyoke's Mihiliya Methsarani was particularly significant because Methsarani was one of just three players Polgar lost to a year ago.
A three-time first team All-NESCAC selection, this is Polgar's second NESCAC Women's Squash Player of the Week award and the first for the Bobcat women's squash team since Maeve O'Brien '21 (Essex, Conn.) earned NESCAC Player of the Week honors on January 28, 2019.
Polgar's career record while playing mostly at the No. 1 position now sits at 60-16. She helped Bates win the Walker Cup title the last two seasons and has competed at individual nationals the past three years.
Polgar and the women's squash team return to action Tuesday at 5pm when the Bobcats host Tufts University at the Bates College Squash Center.
