CLINTON, N.Y. -- Bates College senior Riley Turcotte (Middletown, R.I.) scored the Bobcat women's soccer team's lone goal in its NESCAC opener at Hamilton College today. The Bobcats were dealt their first loss this season, dropping the match 6-1 to the Continentals.
Hamilton (1-1) jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first half. Cat Gambino scored first for the Continentals off an assist from Kristin Hughes at the 12 minute mark. Almost three minutes later, Kayleigh Harris made it 2-0. Kristin Hughes set up Hamilton's second goal. In the 31st minute, Hyla Mosher scored off a pass from Ashlyn Gaulin, and Mackenzie Christensen capped the first half scoring after a pass from Emma Gaulin.
Alex Fontana opened the second half scoring on a penalty kick for Hamilton in the 51st minute. Turcotte broke through for the Bobcats in the 60th minute. She scored her first goal of the season off a feed from senior Sarah DiPillo (Medway, Mass.). Bella Roselli notched the final goal for the Continentals in the 88th minute. Frankie Lilly earned an assist on the play.
Junior Katherine Nuckols (Los Angeles, Calif.) played all 90 minutes in goal for Bates and finished with 12 saves. Rachel Pike made two saves in goal for Hamilton. The Continentals held a 30-4 advantage in shots, and a 6-2 edge in corners.
The Bobcats are back in action on Saturday, Sept. 14, when they travel to Connecticut College for a NESCAC contest at 11:30 a.m.
